Hi there, human being or alien. Today, I made a most shocking discovery about myself. I don't have a life. It's shameful but true. My life has become what school, people and some circumstances have made it to be. Right now I feel a large void in the aspect of how to spend my time. It wasn't always like this. I did make the discovery only today.
Before now, I had a best friend. A guy. At least I thought I did. But what happens when your best friend of many months tells you that he's not who you think he is and you've been friends with a lie all that time. I was like: WAWU. I was hurt. I mean who pretends to be someone they're not to make another person happy?
I crushed the friendship. HS wanted me to end it as well. But now I'm here asking myself questions. Who am I? Who really am I? Aren't I good enough? That someone would pretend so much hurts a lot. I really thought we were friends.. And the most important question of all: What am I going to do now?
I know that I must move on and never go back. I know that I must try new things. I know I must discover myself. And I know that I must make new friends.
Before you overthink it, "yams" is a slang. It means issues. I created it by mixing basic english principles with a yoruba word. Now that that's done, let's move to this very unimportant topic. On Monday. a guy actually had the effrontery to walk up to me in broad daylight and touch my butt. I know, right? I standing in front of a counter in a restaurant, waiting for a friend and drinking water when it happened. I was shocked but I had to swallow the water in my mouth before I reacted. I gave him a proper bath with the bottle of water my friend paid for. It pained me o. PAUSE. I know exactly what you're thinking but stopeet! Overreact? A mistake?? Puhleeeze! The brother knew what he was doing, He told me about the 'fineness' of my butt. Twice!" PLAY.
Unfortunately for me, my bathing skills were too advanced and a lot of water splashed on a very innocent bystander. At the end, I couldn't even be angry in peace. The innocent guy was angry as well and I just had to plead and beg. Sigh. Stories that touch. My molester was obviously high as his eyes were red and blank. Long story cut short, my molester got away with his hand-wandering ways. Him and almost every female-molester in Nigeria. His actions might seem trivial to the ordinary man but I came out of that restaurant shaking. And all I did to attract him was wear a skirt and stand. My skirt was just above my knees and not clingy in any way but even if it was, so what. After seething in anger for a minute or two I walked out of that restaurant knowing I could do nothing about the whole thing. He was physically stronger and I'd probably have typed this with a black eye, a swollen cheek or broken nose if I had done anything more. It probably wouldn't be funny right now. I saw him about a week after the incident. From afar. Thank you very much. And then I got the opportunity to get a closer look at him later on and I know that he didn't recognize me.
I don't feel weird when I remember the incident or when I see him around school. One day, I might actually say hi and invite him to fellowship

3 Shades of Glasses
January was like a breath of fresh air for me. I couldn't help feeling excited. It all seemed new. I had ideas, dreams and a lot of plans. I didn't even expect some of the things that happened to me. 2016 was a cuurrraaaaazzzzzyyy year!I started the day with my mum's Versace glasses. They eventually became mine. She's probably forgotten how she paid for them.
And then in the spirit of the moment, I got these Rayban shades that belong to a very nice person in my faculty. He's graduated now.

I haven't done this in a
while. "What?" you may ask. I haven't picked up a pen or my laptop to
write anything in a long time. Except this one time, where this poem just had
to be written. I've had dialogues,
stories and poetry all take leisurely strolls through what you'd call my mind
but I didn't have the "it" to capture them on paper or in digital
form. Why? Maybe because of fear. Fear that I wouldn't be good enough or fear
that I'd be too good. And maybe because I wasn't ready. Am I ready now? I don't
know. I really can't say but I do know that once again, I'm back at this
writing thing. Not to make money, that'll probably take a while and not to get
awards, that rarely happens when people are alive anyway; but because I have
things to say that the world just has to hear. I do not know if I can go as far
as dying for the truth but I do know it has to be said whether people listen or
not. So Beware.
Getting serious, 2016 is finally over.
I went through my prayer journal today and some of the things I asked for back in January are long gone. I went to places I never imagined I would, did some things that would give my parents heart attacks and got some things that just gave me a little foresight into how 2017 might look like. I am as excited as this baby.
I'm not giving any mushy speeches. NO! You
can't make me. They're dreadfully nasty things and I wouldn't touch one with a pole.
They're tiring. 2016 was a bit trying for me. I had roommates I
just have to tell you about! Roommates that almost drove me crazy! I have decided not to blog so much about 2016 and to look to this new year with hungry eyes but I'm just the writer letting the write be written. I didn't
have any near death experiences, just very lively ones, I'm afraid.
Goodbye 2016! I won't miss you, I'll only
miss the memories we made.

Dear J,
We haven't spoken in several months, not by
any fault of yours. You've tried to keep in touch and I've tried to stay away.
I succeeded more than you, obviously. I really don't know what to say to you
but I'll try. I don't remember our first conversation, It was about 4 years
ago. But I remember how we would chat through the night on 2go. I faintly
remember you asking me to be your girlfriend, my naïve excitement and me
waiting till the next evening to say yes. In my naïvete, that was the best way
to play hard to get. I remember you. I remember how full my heart was. I
remember our declarations of love. I remember the promises we would never keep.
I remember how it all went downhill.
I think I really did love you like I said I
did. I was innocent, young and stupid. I was also eager to rush into the arms
of Cupid. I mean, the dude didn't even need an arrow. I was quite foolish. We were quite foolish. I mean, we promised each other marriage and I
was 15! We even had plans about children, names and all. As embarrassing as
this is to write, It must be written. I actually thought our love would last
forever or that we would at least get married like we planned. I remember all
the air kisses through phone calls. Alright, not all and not even a lot of
them. A few, I guess. Sorry, my memories
of you are quite hazy these days but one thing I clearly remember is that our
2go love was real. I even knew your ex girlfriend. She was so slim, light
skinned and pretty and I was a bit jealous. I mean what did I have that made
you choose me? Back then, I wasn't as pretty as her and that's what boys of
your age were probably after. I got to like her a little, I mean she was your
friend and I had to try for you because I loved you, right?
Do you remember that story you told me
about a movie you watched? You told me about a guy who fell in love with two
girls, This guy was in love with Isabel and then he met Becky and fell in
love with her as well. Then the guy was in a relationship with both of them and
he did not know who to pick. Immediately you started the story, I got a sinking
feeling in my chest and my instincts told me you were lying. That it wasn't a
movie, it was real and I was Becky... with the good hair. I was so scared that
it was true and I was Becky with the good hair.
I was like:
"Instincts, you're lying!"
"D, I'm telling you
the truth!"
"NO! It's not true! J
loves me! Instincts! Tell me it's not true!"
"I'm so sorry
D", Instincts looked away with despair in his eyes. "I hate to be the
bringer of bad news but.." Instincts couldn't continue with the
#StoriesThatTouch
"Oh instincts!"
Dami sobs hysterically...
Dude, of all the names to pick, why Becky?
I mean, there was Pearl or even Hepatitah!! I confronted you and you confirmed
my fears, I was actually Becky. I was so calm about it. I admire
how calm I was. I didn't even cry. I wonder why. And then I gave you an ultimatum: Her or Me.
You picked me and I wish you hadn't because
I broke your heart not long after or at least I think I did.
Fast forward to a few months later, we
started to drift apart. You were very busy with some stuff I don't remember and
it started to affect us. We began to talk less and drift more and I started
getting bored. I missed you of course but I realized I did not love you anymore. I remember that at least twice you asked me to send you airtime and I
did, I remember being disturbed about it. I remember my bestie not being in
support of my relationship with you despite our being on the same page about almost
everything else. I remember that sometimes our conversations were hollow and empty
with no depth. How could a love like that last? Sometimes I was uncomfortable
with somethings you said but I said nothing because I loved you and love is
about sacrifice, I mean we were going to get married and have kids. We never fought, never argued or had fall outs. We were always
happy with each other. What a fairy tale.
I mean how unreal could life get. I remember the only time we met during
our relationship. It was at the church I attended at that time. Our meeting was
very brief, like 5 minutes but I can't wrap my mind about the fact that you
expected me to kiss you there and then, in the open. I was so embarrassed plus
I was at church! Of course I disagreed!! As I watched you walk away, a chord
stroke deep within me and I thought there had to be more to this love thing.
As cliché as this may sound, I never meant
to hurt you. I just got bored, I think, and staying in love was harder than
falling in it. Since we only met once before we broke up and once after, I
can't say I missed your smile or the way you lifted one brow or any other
physical features. I barely recognize you on Facebook the last time I saw your picture!
The way we held on wasn't life and I'm glad it's over.
I wish you all the
good things in life,
D.
